The Stella Frays first got together in March of 2008. Lead singer and guitar player Stuart Cook first had the idea to form a band to give voice to the myriad songs that he held inside his head. He was soon joined by Gareth Hughes on bass and backing vocals and with the newest addition, the crazy tubthumper Danny Pig, The Stella Frays were complete. All the members have had success with other musical projects and each brought a unique influence to the group. Their debut album Stand was released on the 16th of November 2009, backed by a distribution deal with Native and Universal Records. Since forming they have elicited a phenomenal response from all those who have heard them play and garnered a solid musical following. As exciting as 2009 has been they are anticipating an even better year in 2010.
The Stella Frays long term goal is to bring their music to the populous and in doing so earn enough success for their efforts to be remunerative. Their live shows are renowned for their boundless energy and it is here that The Stella Frays relish and enjoy their musical creativity the most. They are filling up their 2010 calendar with as many gigs and festivals as possible up and down the country and even further afield. The second album is soon to be completed and they can’t wait to get back into the studio and record it.
Their music acts as a mirror to the world they take inspiration from. At once studying and reflecting modern society as they find it. They have taken influences from the ‘50s right through to the modern music scene creating an amalgamation of eras with a modern twist. In their new album they look to, other cultures and experiences to direct and influence their sound.
